An entire season in one glorious night

http://www.tvsquad.com [TV Squad] I actually watched all 4 seasons of Alias and the first season of Veronica Mars this summer...Im currently working on Lost season 1...I never sat in front of the tv for a whole season tho...24 hours straight...I couldnt do that...I have watched at most probably 5-6 episodes a day. Summer is such a great time to catch up on tv...screw watching reruns or reality show that I have no interest in.

TiVo Begins Overlap Protection Rollout

[Zatz Not Funny. . .] (For example, one program ends at 8:33, while the next program begins at 8:30) When you turn Overlap Protection on, the DVR automatically clips the lover priority recording by just enough minutes to allow both programs to record. When scheduling new recordings, the DVR notifies you of any recording conflict and gives you options for resolving it.

Speakables for TV - free voice control for Mac-based PVRs

Media Center Stabilizing

http://mediacentric.nonliteral.com [Mediacentric] I finally decided to replace the audio system mostly because I started to notice that when the box hung, the audio would drop out a second or two beforehand. Since making the change, the only remaining problem I have is that I still have lock-ups anytime the background update service is enabled.

TiVo Software 7.3 and Hardware Dongle

[Zatz Not Funny. . .] First spotted this summer in Vegas, I can now provide a few more details on the mysterious dongle of 2005 (not to be confused with the presumably abandoned 2004 TivoToGo dongle shown at CES). TiVo will begin selling a branded wireless G adapter which should result in fewer networking hassles, such as hardware compatibility.

Cablecard 2.0 coming to you HDTV next year

atmaspheric | endeavors[atmaspheric | endeavors] Cablecard delivers a superior picture (no cable box compression) and the 2.0 version will give you two-way control so you won’t need a box for VOD or enhanced services if your provider supports this function. It’s also good news for third party DVR makers like TIVO and will hopefully be the path to HDTV on HTPC’s like MCE.

DirecTV to launch own DVR

[Digital Tech Life] Hmmm….this isn't good news for TiVo.  The NYTimes is reporting that DirecTV will be launching their own DVR just in time for the holidays, even though the company still has an agreement with TiVo that doesn't run out until 2007.  The terms of their agreement with TiVo has the satellite provider paying TiVO a monthly fee of $1.13 per TiVo subscriber.  Common sense says that they'll want to put all their time and effort into pushing their own soon-to-be-released DVR.  You can see some of their ads running on network and cable television, in newspapers, magazines, and on the radio.  Their ad campaign will cost the company a reported $30 million.

Sharp Aquos HD DVRs

Personal thoughts on Comcast HD DVR

http://www.hdbeat.com [HD Beat] The motorola box from comcast, at least w/ the tv quide software (in some areas it apparently comes with Microsoft software that is completely different), does both of those things. If you're recording a show and you get home in the middle, hit the dvr button and watch the show as it records, no problem, if you exit or stop the playback aprtway through, when you go back, it starts from the same spot you left off, a couple times I'm noticed it hasn't, but I think it was due to the box resetting after a power outage.
