BeyondTV 4 review @ eHomeUpgrade

http://www.hdbeat.com [HD Beat] eHomeUpgrade took a look at the latest version of the software, this time featuring HDTV suppport, and seem to be very impressed. The ability to recognize multiple tuners, DVR functions, and OTA HDTV support weigh heavily in BeyondTV's favor, it can even compress shows using DivX, unlike Windows Media Center's built in software.

DTV House-brand DVR Struggling

http://www.stankowski.blogspot.com [Checksum Crusader] I cannot say that I am surprised by this, but the recently introduced DTV DVR has had some pretty significant issues develop. I will repeat again, that no DVR has the "fit and finish" that TiVo has, although it certainly isn't perfect.

Tivo: A cautionary tale

TV Squadhttp://www.tvsquad.com [TV Squad] I don't get excited about new gadgets, and even as they become more ubiquitous I still stay away from them until I'm convinced there's really a need. This has served me well, I think, but it can have its disadvantages.

TiVo Podcasts, ehh it’s okay

[NickStarr.com : Nick Starr dot com] I don’t think I will use it for listening to tons of podcasts, especially with an iPod, two mac computers, and one pc around that I can listen to it on. Certainly worth a try if it’s on your TiVo.

Watching commercials anyway

TV Squadhttp://www.tvsquad.com [TV Squad] One of the benefits of owning a DVR is, of course, the ability to skip over commercials, but Scott Colbourne writes in the Globe and Mail that, despite having a DVR that affords him that luxury, he still watches the commercials. He does have a point that commercials can be just as entertaining, sometimes even more entertaining, than the shows they interrupt.
