[ Zatz Not Funny!] A family friend kindly stood in line till 3 AM so my parents could provide my brother with a Nintendo Wii for Christmas. It didn’t get set up till the 26th, but it has since provided non-stop entertainment.

Download of the Day: MediaPortal (Windows)
[Lifehacker, the Productivity and Software Guide] It's ironic that LH chooses now to feature MP: I just got my HTPC up and running under MP 0.2.0.4 and it's working beautifully. Short of a hardware defect on my Hauppage PVR-500, the signal looks better than my TWC set-top-box (anyone else hate TWC's new and "improved" Navigator?).

DVR Ads Go Personal With MSN
[Marketing Blog Bent On Market Research & Advertising Technology] The company just filed for a patent for tracking and customizing ads stored on digital video recorders, which in Microsoft's case today means Media Center PCs, according to Web Pro News. Microsoft prefers to license its technology to consumers electronics companies, so I would expect the company to encourage box builders to incorporate AdCenter technology for personalizing ads.

The VCR Media Center PC
[My Gadget Info] He frankensteined together a “ViVo”, which is a Vista Media Center PC on a Celeron D 3.0 with a 250GB hard drive all running inside, you guessed it, a Panasonic VCR. The only thing visibly different from the outside is the addition of a fan, and the fact that the VCR slot is actually a disc slot to pop out the DVD drive!
