[The Furrygoat Experience] MCE Extenders: [Chris Lanier] I would like to add that the market for Extenders will boom if Microsoft can get it right....Again, there isnt much that needs to change, but the things that do are deal breakers for a large percent of people who would purchase one today and tomorrow.
[Ian Dixon] A new TV Service coming to MCE: Chris Lanier reports on a new service coming to Media Center called ClearLightTV. He said they say the content will be "Family Oriented TV Programming"
[Tree Speaker] autoProducer unPlugged For MCE 2005: Designed for the Windows XP Media Center platform, muvee autoProducer unPlugged is the first and only application to introduce instant personal video into the living room, by letting users quickly and easily make muvees on a TV screen using just the familiar buttons of a remote control. unPlugged retains the core functions of muvees award-winning PC application, muvee autoProducer, but now presents them in an interactive, 10-foot Media Center-styled interface.
[The Importance of...] No Cable HDTV for Microsoft for Now: [T]he problem is the broadcast industry, which is reluctant to let Microsoft add support for CableCARD to Windows Media Center because they dont think a Media Center PC is a secure enough environment. They prefer what they perceive as the closed box environments of a TiVo or a cable set top box, and believe that a Windows Media Center PC with CableCARD would be a boon to piracy (as if shows arent going to get pirated no matter what). The funny thing is, if Hollywood is successful in forcing the whole trusted computing thing down our throats, they're going to end up reporting to Bill Gates.
[RoudyBob.NET] [Chris Lanier] Most Helpful Threads/Links on TGB: It’s really a great site for the WinXP MCE enthusiast - the only problem is that I find there’s SO much information that it’s hard to locate exactly what you’re looking for. Chris posted on his blog today a link to the “Most Helpful Threads/Links on TGB”.
[Tree Speaker] Power Compress: DVR-MS to WMV or AVI: Power Compress makes it easy for you to convert your recorded TV shows from DVR-MS to Windows Media format. All your recorded video files can now be converted into a format that is up to 10 times smaller than the regular MCE format!
[Msmvps.com] Chris Lanier's Blog: A few posts going around today by Thomas Hawk and Ed Bott in specific about Media Center Extenders, all centered around Tim Coyle's HP Media Center Extender review and Matt Goyer's post on the HP Extender being discontinued. The market is there, the product is not!
