TiVo leads viewers to watch even more TV

[ PVR Spot: PVR news, DIY PVR, reviews, tivo, replay tv and more] Despite all the protests against Tivo on the basis of copyright and theft of product, this report states that Tivo is actually good for TV, although it sems more based on the opinions of a few random people than any serious study

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

[SpeakSpeak News] FCC to Peeps: Hep Us!: According to the LA Times, our kindred spirits over at Free Press plan to report a scad of payola violations later today. Says Free Press, broadcasting “is chock-full of pay-for-play endorsements of commercial products and federal policy.”

http://kabod.blogspot.com [hope of glory] from the New York Times. 'Everything Bad Is Good ...: But when Johnson purports to discern a silver lining in programs like ''Joe Millionaire'' and ''The Apprentice,'' he has to resort to trickier tactics. After reminding us that his argument doesn't depend on the content of the shows being particularly interesting but relates instead to the intricacies of their formats, he suggests that reality TV engages viewers' ''emotional intelligience'' by confronting them with a staged array of rapidly shifting social situations and densely interlocking human relationships. When an ''Apprentice'' team leader chews out an underling who is well liked by other contestants, it lights up an ancient corner of our brains responsible for assuring our survival as members of communities and tribes.

[Weblog.foopee.org] Graham's weblog » TV viewers find TiVo addictive: “TiVo television recorders that allow viewers to replay programs and skip commercials have turned casual TV watchers into prisoners shackled to sofas, unable to keep up with the flood of their favorite shows.” [Link]

[Blogumentary.typepad.com] Digital Television Blog: Speaking of media-in-flux, keep an eye on Open Media Network, a "free public service designed to help you enjoy a broad selection of movies, public TV and radio, video blogs and podcasts while protecting producer's copyrights." The service will be powered by Kontiki, a commercial BitTorrent-like shared downloading scheme that the BBC used to deliver prime-time TV via the internet.

Stupidevilbastard.comhttp://stupidevilbastard.com [Stupidevilbastard.com] Stupid Evil Bastard » Blog Archive » TiVo - TV the advertiser's way!: Customer response so far has been mixed. Some TiVo fans are fine with the change so long as it helps the company to survive and others are wary that this is only the beginning of a trend that’s going to destroy what makes them fans of TiVo in the first place. Of course if the bill in Congress I mentioned the other day goes through and makes it illegal to fast forward through commercials then this becomes a moot point anyway, but it shows that marketers are at least a bit smarter than some of the big media companies in recognizing their need to adapt to new technology instead of banning it.

Pvrblog.com[Pvrblog.com] Television Reloaded | PVRblog: I assume this will be a good thing for the MotorSport Ranch pilot and potential series. For example, I NEVER watched the Travel Channel before I had TIVO - now I watch one or two series (World Poker Tour to name one) only found on that network. Oh and what about OLN (Outdoor Life Network channel 800 or something) - they run the Tour de France each year - we keep that running in Architel's Network Operations Center during the summer.

[Tvharmony.com] TVHarmony: There is good financial news for Tivo investors as reported by CNet. Tivo beat analysts estimates and narrowed it's expected losses for the quarter. It also increased its subscriber base by 339,000 users (72,000 of which are non-DirecTv subscribers).
