[Engadget] And, of course, EchoStar is requesting that the original ruling, which awarded TiVo about $74 million, be stayed until the USPTO finishes digging through TiVo's records. One thing's certain: this isn't ending any time soon, so if you want to keep up, be sure to program your TiVo box to catch the latest news (or program your EchoStar box, if that's what you've got, and hope that its time-shifting functions don't suddenly disappear via a court-mandated firmware flash).

The digital video recording company said Wednesday the federal district court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, denied EchoStar's motion to transfer the case outside Texas.

Digg.comhttp://digg.com [Digg.com] TiVo's Future May Hinge on Patent Case: I'm not sure what version of EchoStar's DVR you have used (probably one of the 501 or 510 models) but only a couple of them ran on Linux, the newer ones do not. I think EchoStar's system is just a lot more cut and dry.
